The Activities of the 8th National Conference of Environment and Natural Resources

The Environment Sciences Department at the Faculty of Science held its periodic conference of the environment entitled "The 8^th National Conference of Environment and Natural Resources" under the theme of preserving biological diversity, protecting the environment and natural heritage.

The participated in the conference included more than 80 different Iraqi provinces researchers, from 19 universities as well as the Ministries of Environment, Science and Technology, The Ministry of Oil and others also a participated of two researchers from the United States.

The conference included several themes, with biodiversity, environmental pollution, and environmentally friendly technologies. The introductory lecture focused on the decline within biodiversity due to the low levels of water which are reaching Iraq from fountainhead countries. A number of environmental problems that many faced by the Iraqi provinces were discussed at the conference. It was focused on the problem of high concentrations of salt and pollution at Shatt al-Arab.
