A seminar at the Faculty of Education for Human Sciences at the University of Basrah discussed the magical reality and modern Iraqi narrative literature.

Dr. Jinan Fadhl al-Hajjaj mentioned that miraculous or magical realism is one of the narrative patterns that has been referred to, beginning with the 1980s of the last century till the present day. Especially with the spread of stories and novels that adopt surprising or unusual realities in contemporary literature. Franz Roh a German artist and critic used the term "magical realism" in 1925 to describe the artistic trend that followed expressionism, but thanks to the writers of South America, especially the Cuban novelist Alejo Carpentier in tracking the presence of magical realism elements in European and American literature.
