University of Basrah Discusses Exchanging Gifts between Assyrian kings & other Ancient Near East Rulers

Department of History in the College of Education for Girls at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled "Exchanging Gifts between Assyrian kings & other Ancient Near East Rulers".

The lecturer Abdul Ghani Ghali Fares, mentioned that these gifts were date back to the Assyrian and Medieval Era (1521-612 BC), where they are generally made up of manufactured products, wood and metals, especially gold and silver, not to mention livestock, as well as gifts sent to some Assyrian kings also included women. The aim of this study is to highlight important aspects of the political and cultural history of the ancient Near East, as well as revealing an important aspect of the positive engagement of Assyrian kings with foreign powers.
