University of Basrah records genes of local goats at the National Biotechnology Information Center

Dr. Asaad Yahya Ayed, Dr. Ali Jassim Abdul Redha and Dr. Jaafar Mohammed Owaid from the College of Agriculture at Basrah University registered the genes of local Iraqi goats at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), which is concerned with conservation of genetic genes of living organisms.

These genes are considering as one of the mitochondrial genes (CYTB), the coded genes are involved in the transport chain of electron in the respiratory pathway of the mitochondria, they are also used in the translation of protein across membranes to synthesize ATP.

It is worth mentioning that, these genes were registered for the first time in Iraq.
