The faculty member in the College of Sciences, Basrah University, Dr. Basil Abdel-Mahdi, in cooperation with a research team, Biskra University, Algeria, conducted a joint study on molecular docking, molecular dynamic simulation, and reactivity, studies on approved drugs targeting the binding of Covid-19 to the ACE-2 protein responsible for the entry of the virus into the cell.
The joint study aimed at studying alternative drugs for chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, which were used to treat patients with Covid-19, and their use was banned in many countries due to their side effects.
The joint study, in which published in the English Journal of Biomolecular Structure And Dynamics, which is issued by Taylor and Francis Group in Thomson-Reuters in Clarivate and Scopus with (3.22) impact factor, demonstrating conducting evaluating eighteen theoretical drugs against Coronavirus, noticing that these drugs are available and used to treat a variety of diseases.
The joint study concluded that Delapril, Lisinopril and Ramipril could be successful alternatives in treating Covid-19 which caused a global pandemic, also recommended conducting more experimental and clinical studies of these alternatives treatments.
